The creative Paradox:
How Art is created between Pain and Fulfillment

The world of art is a complex, deeply felt and often painful experience. Artists live in a constant field of tension between expression and existence. In dealing with one's own creativity, the search for authenticity and the striving to live from one's own art, the essence of the artist becomes tangible. Joy and pain are often inextricably intertwined. So what does it mean to be an artist?
The Inner Call - The Birth of the Artist

Being an artist begins with an inner urge, an inescapable need to express something. It is this moment in which an idea, a vision or a deep feeling enters the consciousness so powerfully that it must be translated into the external world. Many artists may have enjoyed an academic education, perfected their artistic skills and dealt intensively with techniques. But ultimately it is the immediate that comes from the innermost being and defines the true artist. A craftsman reproduces techniques, an artist creates unique things from the depths of his being.
It is precisely at this point, when an idea is to become art, that the struggle begins. How do I translate my thoughts into a work? Which techniques do I use? Do I use sketches or do I work purely process-oriented and let my emotions guide me? The decisions about the format, the materials and the techniques are part of an intense intellectual and emotional debate. And this is exactly where the artist's suffering begins.
The Creative Process -
Joy and Torment at the same time

The creative process is a journey through highs and lows. At the beginning there is often euphoria, the feeling of creating something new. But doubts soon arise: "Is this the right way? Have I chosen the right technique? Why doesn't this picture just work?" A work is often discarded, reconsidered and revised again and again. The thought of throwing everything into the corner until the decisive idea comes is a constant companion of every creative creation.
The work of the artist is not just a manual activity, but a deeply intellectual one. It is the combination of artistic skill, emotional surges and the ability to go through crises and creative blocks that paves the way to a successful work. And ultimately, a work of art must not only convince the viewer - it must also surprise the artist himself. A work is only complete when it touches the artist in an unexpected way, when it is more than the sum of its parts.
Dialogue with the World - the Art of Revelation
But the creative process is only the first hurdle. When the work is finished, the question arises: "Do I show it to the world?" This is a moment of great vulnerability, because the artists reveal themselves completely. Their works are parts of themselves, expressions of their deepest thoughts and emotions. By exhibiting their art, they enter into a dialogue with the public and expose themselves to criticism and praise at the same time. This moment of exposure is a step that requires courage, because art that is brought into the world leaves the protected space of the studio and becomes an object of public observation. You have to be able to endure this.
And then comes pragmatism: artists must not only be artistically active, but also see themselves as entrepreneurs. They must market their works, increase their popularity and take care of their income. Only a few artists manage to live exclusively from their art. Most are forced to secure their living through part-time jobs, art courses or commissioned work. The dream of living from art alone often remains unfulfilled.
Art and Society - a valuable Relationship
However, artists do not only work for themselves. They inspire, stimulate thought and create new perspectives. Their works are dialogues with society, conversations between souls, they reflect the times and encourage people to deal with the questions of existence. Art is not a luxury, but an urgent necessity. It provides inspiration, shapes cultures and offers space for reflection.
But how often is this appreciated by the general public? Artists often sell their works below value, especially if they are only known regionally. It is not always the big galleries and the famous names that create valuable art. It is precisely the unknown and underestimated who enrich the world with their individual perspective.
Art is valuable - because it makes the world richer, deeper and more multifaceted. Society needs artists, and it is up to all of us to give them the recognition, space and respect they deserve. Because without art, the world would lose depth.

at Herodot Cultural Center Bodrum from 21. to 25. August 2024
A place where diversity and creativity deserves truly the name ART.
The International Art Fair at Herodot Cultural Center in Bodrum, which took place from 21 to 25 August 2024, turned out to be a remarkable event that united the intellectual art world. As artists and founders of the Lumen Art Gallery platform, we, Nasrah Nefer and Elke Lina Krüger, had the honor of participating in this outstanding event together with the Arya Kamalı Cultural Center from Izmir.
Our sincere thanks go to Arya Kamalı, the visionary gallery owner and artist who made this participation possible for us, as well as to his curator and artist Gülnur ÇavuÅŸ, whose objects reflected the symbiotic relationship between archaic tradition and contemporary formal language at the highest level.
Arya Kamalı's Artwork presentation, especially his caricatures created on antique paper, opened up an interesting connection between the past and the present, engaging the recipient in an intellectual dialogue.
The fair, which offered an impressive variety of works from 45 galleries and 800 artists, with 12000 Visitors was a triumphant climax for the artistic season.
​In this high-caliber setting, we presented our works: Nasrah Nefer's acrylic paintings "Olga" and "Desoxiribonucleus" shone in vivid color contrasts, while
my (Elke Lina Krüger) works "Power Woman" and "Heartbreaker" were highlighted by the expressive power of color and form in golden frames.
The inspiring exchange with other artists and the intellectually charged atmosphere of the coastal town of Bodrum, which served as the aesthetic epicenter of the event, left lasting impressions. This fair impressively demonstrated that art as a universal language not only builds bridges between cultures, but also stimulates deeper intellectual discourses.
